About Dr. Rosa
Dr. Rosa Chemwey Ndiema is a distinguished Maternal-Fetal Medicine Specialist with over a decade of clinical, research, and leadership experience in maternal, reproductive, and newborn health. She currently serves as Lead Consultant at Kenyatta National Hospital, where she spearheads the development of a Center of Excellence for high-risk pregnancies and fetal care. Her pioneering work includes performing one of the country’s rare in-utero fetal blood transfusions, marking a significant milestone in Kenya’s public health sector.
Research & Innovation
A PhD Clinical Fellow in Maternal-Fetal Medicine from Moi University, Dr. Ndiema also holds a Master of Medicine in Obstetrics and Gynaecology from the University of Nairobi, and has trained internationally in Epidemiology and Clinical Trials at the University of Pennsylvania. Her academic background is matched by a strong record in strategic health leadership, having completed a diploma in leadership development at the Kenya School of Government.
Dr. Ndiema's work spans clinical excellence, health systems strengthening, and international collaborations. She has served as:
- Co-Principal Investigator in the multicountry PEARLS Trial for preeclampsia prediction.
- Mentor to MPH students at the University of Pennsylvania.
- Consultant for maternal and newborn health assessments with B.Braun, MannionDaniels Africa, and IGAD.
- Global Health Equity Scholar at Yale University.
In her role at Kenyatta National Hospital, she has contributed significantly to reducing maternal mortality through clinical mentorship, maternal audits, and evidence-based care. As Head of the Labor Ward and former Head of Infection Prevention and Control, she led clinical governance and pandemic preparedness efforts, impacting thousands of healthcare workers and patients.
Her regional work across East Africa and the Horn of Africa reflects her deep commitment to health equity, policy transformation, and cross-border healthcare improvements. Through academic teaching roles and leadership in multiple maternal health projects, Dr. Ndiema continues to shape Kenya’s maternal and reproductive health landscape.
